Investing In Better Appliances

When our dishwasher sparked a major flood in our home, we realized it might be wise to invest in better kitchen appliances. Unfortunately, we had no idea where to start. We started shopping around, but we were frustrated with the selection because we didn't understand the need for some of the features. After a lot of research, we were able to track down appliances that would fit into our kitchen, improve the appearance, and work well for our needs. I wanted to create a website for other people who might be in the market for home appliances sometime soon.

Clean The Vent Covers And Duct Openings To Your Central Heating System

by Julia Wood

If the vent covers and duct openings that are connected to your central heating system are dirty, you may not feel much warm air blowing through them and the unit will need to work harder in order to heat up your home when it is turned on. Clean these vital parts by following the instructions that are listed below. Once you have finished, the unit will work more efficiently. Continue to maintain the vent covers and duct openings throughout the year to prevent additional problems from occurring.

Materials

  • screwdriver
  • dust mask
  • disposable gloves
  • vacuum cleaner with hose attachment
  • cobweb duster
  • lint-free cloths
  • can of compressed air
  • fin tool
  • mild detergent
  • water
  • stiff-bristled scrub brush

Remove Dust From The Entrance Of Each Duct

Use a screwdriver to remove the vent covers. Put on a dust mask and pair of disposable gloves to keep yourself protected from breathing in or touching dust and dirty residue. Insert the hose from a vacuum cleaner into each duct and turn the machine on for a couple minutes. If any debris is stuck on the sides of each duct, use a cobweb duster to help remove it. Wipe each duct's interior walls off with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove any residue that remains. Dry the interior surfaces off with a dry cloth when you are finished.

Clean The Vent Covers

Use a can of compressed air to remove debris that is stuck between metal pieces that run across the top of each cover. If any metal pieces are not lined up properly on some of the covers, use a fin tool to bend them back into shape. Wedge the end of the tool under the metal that is misaligned and press it firmly into the direction that you would like the metal to bend.

Use a small amount of soapy water and a stiff-bristled scrub brush to clean the surface of each cover. Once the covers are clean, rinse them off with plain water and dry them with a lint-free cloth. Line the covers up over each opening and attach them with screws.

Keep The Vent Covers And Ducts Maintained

Your heating unit will continue to work efficiently as long as you keep the vent coverings and duct openings maintained throughout the year. Inspect each part after you use your heating unit several times and clean them if needed. For any other repairs that you are not familiar with completing, hire a company such as Economy Air Systems Inc. that specializes in repairing heating units.
